Last week, I asked this wonderful community for resources on Pontiac Fieros and their reputation for quality, or lack thereof. I’m finishing up edits on my video about it and will post it up here as soon as I can.

This brings up a key question: can we save/back up comments? The comments section on my “tell me about the Fiero” post is a wealth of knowledge:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

A lot of what’s great about Oppo revolves around the discussions we have. If there’s any way to back up comments when saving our posts, that would be swell.

Yes! Is this possible without dumping the whole DB and parsing out my records? This is also important to me. I’m not much for posting since I only saved off 1. B ut, I ’ve made a lot of replies. Would be nice to get them and maybe the parent post/reply.

Yeah! If you’re running Chrome or Firefox, use the Save Page WE extension. You have to scroll to the bottom and expand all comments but it’s not too bad if you do it for only a few posts.

Also, pro tip - you can narrow your browser window so the shit on the side doesn’t fit!

Eh. I’m not even planning to save my posts. Nothing of value will be lost.

We looked into it during the last apocalypse and the short answer is: yes, but not automated.  Given that a human can barely see the comments these days, I have yet to figure out a way to get them to dump automatically...

We could  retrieve them in JSON t hen find the JavaScript functions used to generate the HTML code from it and re-use them.
